Eldred William "Nick" Nicholson, Sr., age 80, of St. Leonard, MD, died January 6, 2010. Nick was born December 15, 1929 in Washington, D.C. to Eldred and Viola Chaney Nicholson.

He was raised in Anacostia where he attended public school. He married Catherine D. Pruitt on September 23, 1948, and they lived and raised their family in Washington, D.C. until moving to Hillcrest Heights in 1956, Cottage City in 1962, and St. Leonard in Calvert County in 1979. Nick served in the US Marine Corps in the early 1950's. He was employed as an oil burner mechanic for Griffith Consumers from the early 1950's until the mid 1970's. He was a master electrician, and also worked as a Union Pile-driver on the second span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in the 1970's. He was later employed as a truck and heavy duty equipment salesman for the Northern Virginia Supply Company until his retirement in 1993. Nick was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was devoted to his wife Catherine, and they loved dancing together. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, boating and water skiing, and yard work. Nick was also know as an accomplished handyman, and was able to fix almost anything.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Catherine on January 4, 2005, and also by his parents.

He is survived by his loving children Karen S. Paddy and husband Jimmy of North Beach, Kathy D. Newcomer of Huntingtown, Darla J. Briggs and husband Mike of Prince Frederick, Eldred W. Nicholson, Jr. and wife Dorothy of Kent Island, Kevin L. Nicholson, Sr. and wife Pam of Chesapeake Beach and Darrell J. Nicholson, Sr. and wife Ester of Orange County, VA.. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
