![]() Evelyn Theresa Barnes Proctor departed this life on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2009, at Civista Memorial Hospital in La Plata, Maryland.
Evelyn was born on October 8, 1928, in McConchie, Maryland to the late Edward J. and Hattie Scott Barnes. She was the tenth of eleven children born to this union. Evelyn was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, and its Father Martin Society. She was educated in the Charles County Public School System and after completing her education, was employed as a Cook at various restaurants in the Waldorf area. Evelyn also occupied various domestic positions throughout her career. During this time, she was blessed with her first-born son, Charles, and subsequently produced three additional beautiful boys, George, Bernard and Francis in her union with George Roney Savoy. Evelyn was later joined in Holy Matrimony to John Roland Proctor and it was during this time that she found her true calling, "childcare". In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, John Roland Proctor; brothers: Ernest, Sylvester, Edward Jr., Francis and John Henry Barnes; sisters: Catherine and Mary Barnes, Elizabeth Rogers, and Cecilia Stowe; and two daughters-in-law, Alice Barnes and Alene Savoy. Evelyn is survived by her four loving sons: Charles Randolph Barnes, George Roney Savoy, Jr. (Gloria), Bernard Roney Savoy (Cynthia), and Francis Roney Savoy (Jane); twelve grandchildren: Charles Nigel, Randolph, Samantha, Cekeithia, George III, Takaya, Kienta, Bernard, Ebony, Shanan, Rhonda and Jasmine; twenty-three great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one devoted sister, Marion H. Barbour; a loving future daughter-in-law, Jamai Fontaine; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and many friends. Family and friends are invited to services on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 3320 St. Peter's Drive, Waldorf, MD 20601. Viewing at 9:30 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Interment at St. Peter's Catholic Church Cemetery. Arrangements by Thornton Funeral Home, P.A. |
