![]() On January 1, 1945, in Pomonkey, Maryland Carl Leonard Carter was the last child to be born to the late Keith and the late Helen Carter. On December 10, 2009 at the Civista Medical Center, he departed this life for one eternal.
"Piggy" as he was affectionately known to family and friends was educated in the schools of Charles County, MD graduating from Pomonkey High School. For a short period of time he worked for the Postal System. However, he would find his true fulfillment working with his hands in the area of carpentry. Although he was skilled in many areas of building, he definitely had gifted hands and a creative mind especially when it came to the details of small projects such as the doll house he made for his daughter, miniature furniture that he made from tree twigs or the bird house condominium he had outside of his own home. Most recently, he shared his knowledge of carpentry with his nephew, Vincent "VJ," who had no building experience, but out of their time together and with the information/wisdom Piggy had given, VJ not only added a fabulous deck to his home but also built a mobile unit for his business. "Piggy" was a man of simple taste and pleasures, except during his "Super Fly Days" and his indulgence in his sporty little green Triumph. Mostly, he enjoyed family, especially his daughter, Towan, son-in-law, Mike and grandsons, Troy and Rod. He would spend time with them watching football or join them during family outings. He had a very special relationship with his daughter although there were days when you didn't know who was the parent and who was the child. She was not only a joy in his life but a tremendous help in handling all of his business. He had great trust in her. He also maintained a friendship with her mom, Lorraine E. Gray, "Piney." "Piggy" was very social and a friend to just about everybody in Pisgah. You could often find him sitting under the tree talking with the many friends that would drop by or see him when he went to get his morning coffee. He also had a love for house birds and fish. In addition to his carpentry skills, he will be remembered as being a soft spoken and laid back man who will be missed by all. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Rotan, brothers, Kenneth and Benjamin "Brother" Carter, and brother-in-law, James Rotan. In addition to his daughter, also left to cherish many fond memories are his grandchildren Troy and Rod Burroughs, son-in-law, Michael, sisters, Madeline (Tat) Sylvie and Barbara Jameson, special niece, Tonya "Honey" who was like his sister, brothers-in-law, Numa Sylvie and Vincent Jameson, sisters-in-law, Betty and Ann Carter, other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, two great great nieces and many cousins and friends. His viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 16th, 9:00am until time of service 11:00am in the Chapel of THORNTON Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD.
