Francis Robinson West, 91, of La Plata, MD, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, died November 19, 2009, at Civista Medical Center, La Plata, MD.

Mr. West was inducted into the United States Army in 1941 -Company A 95th Engineer Regiment. He served in Normandy, Northern France, England and Canada where he worked on the Alcon Highway. He received the American Defense Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two bronze stars. He was discharged in 1945. He served as a postal worker with the United States Post Office for 33 years. He was a member of the Charles Young American Legion Post in Philadelphia, PA, as their Chaplain working with the homeless and the infirm.

Born February 8, 1918, in Washington, D.C.

Predeceased by his wife, Zenolia Walker West.

Survived by his daughter, Emily Walker Lane of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren, Margo Lane, Roberta Lane-Callaway, Dr. Robert Lane, Jr., DMD, Madelyne Lane, Genevieve Lane-Nichols, Dr. Linwood Lane, DMD. Also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many family and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 28, 2009, at 1:00PM until time of service at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD.

Interment will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD, on Monday, November 30, 2009, at 1PM.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the United States Army Honor Guard.
