![]() Marion Patricia "Patsy" Spalding, 74 of Avenue, MD died November 14, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born May 1, 1935, in Avenue, MD she was the youngest child of the late Marion Rae Maddox Bailey and John Louis Bailey, Sr.
She was the loving wife of Elmer Gordon Spalding, Sr., whom she married on November 9th, 1952 in Holy Angels Catholic Church in Avenue, MD. She was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County. After attending Holy Angels School she began working in her family's restaurant business, Baileys Restaurant on the square in Olde Leonardtown. In the early 1960's she began working for St. Mary's County Public Schools as a food service worker. After leaving the school system, she worked at the Officers Club at Patuxent River Naval Station until her retirement. It was during this time that she attended culinary school and became a certified Sous Chef. In her retirement she has enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cross-stitching and chauffeuring the great grandchildren in the "BeepBeep." In addition to her husband of 57 years she is survived by her brother William "Bills" Bailey of Compton, MD and her sister Shirley Viola Alvey of Hollywood, MD; four children Glenda C. Guy and her husband Walter of Compton, MD, Donna F. Gibson and her husband Steve of Bushwood, MD, Ronald L. Spalding of Solomons, MD, and Elmer Gordon Spalding, Jr. of Lusby, MD. She is also survived by eight grandchildren Kimberly and Walter Guy, Tanya Colliflower and her husband Matt, Michael Gibson and his wife Kimmie, Tara Glass and her husband Tim, Matt Spalding, Mallory Roche and her husband Sean, Ronnie Spalding and his wife Mary, as well as seven great grandchildren. Marion is preceded in death by her brother John Louis Bailey, Jr. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 19, 2009 from 5:00 -8:00 PM in Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD where prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 10:00 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Avenue, MD with Fr. William Gurnee officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Bushwood, MD. Pallbearers will be Matt Colliflower, Matt Spalding, Sean Roche, Tim Glass, Jeff Hagen and George Alvey. Honorary Pallbears will be Michael Gibson and Walter Guy, Jr. Contributions may be made to 7th District Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
