Joseph James Towney, Sr., "Pop", 72 of La Plata, MD died on November 9, 2009 at his residence.

Born on August 8, 1937 in Washington, DC, he was the son the late Thomas Edward and Alice Grantham Towney. Mr. Towney was a Painter. He also served in U.S. National Guard. His enjoyments were playing cards, fishing, crabbing, traveling places and taking trips with his family, old country music, and loved his 1967 Chevy Malibu, "Nellie Bell." He was a simple man who loved his family.

Predeceased by his wife, Faith Krehbiel Towney.

Survived by his children, Linda F. Schroat, Alicia M. Wood, Joseph J., Jr. and James R. Towney, grandchildren, Billy and Brian Wood, Samantha, Jimmy, Robby, and Christopher Towney.

Family will receive friends to Celebrate Joseph's Life on Friday, November 13, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. at Brinsfield Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD where Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2009 with Reverend Joseph Dobson officiating. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace cemetery, Helen, MD.
