William Charles Meier (Ret. Lt. Colonel, U.S. Army), 72, of Waldorf, MD, died October 2, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Meier was a retired Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Army having served 26 years. Following his retirement he worked as a government contractor from 1985 to 2003. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in La Plata, where he served with the Prison Ministry. He was an avid camper who enjoyed being with his family, his grandchildren and his dog, Lucky.

Born September 23, 1937, in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late William C. Meier, Sr. And the late Wilma A. Graesing Meier.

Predeceased by his parents.

Survived by his wife, Donna L. Meier; son, William G. and his wife Toni Meier of Hughesville, MD; daughters, Gretchen Y. and her husband Craig Ayres of King George, VA; Lisa N. and her husband Steve Lindsey of Hollywood, MD; Tina M. and her husband Steve Huber of Waldorf, MD; sisters, Barbara and her husband Jock Hegedus of Cleveland, OH; Sandra and her husband John Deji of Cleveland, OH. Also survived by nine grandchildren, William, Anne, Schuyler, Steven, Matthew, James, Cassie, Emily and Amanda.

Visitation will be Monday, October 26, 2009, from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD.

Funeral Service will be Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at 11AM at Grace Lutheran Church, La Plata, MD.

Rev. Christopher Ogne will officiate.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on December 23, 2009, at 3PM.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and godsons.
