Mary Angenette Somerville, 79 of Lexington Park, MD died October 10, 2009 at Chesapeake Shores Nursing Center.

Born July 19, 1930 in Hermanville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Emma Gordon Gough.

She was a graduate of Cardinal Gibbons and was employed as a cook at the Officers Club, Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, MD, the Sunset Manor and Spinning Wheel Restaurants. She later became a beautician and operated her own beauty shop until her health failed in 2006.

She was a member of St. Peter Claver Church and belonged to the Women of the Word, the Rosary Group, and the Senior Club, was a charter member of the Merry Wives Club and a member of the Cosmetology Association. She loved doing hair, fishing, cooking, shopping, playing cards with her family and spending time with her church family.

She is survived by her children, Joyce A. Kearney of Henderson, N.C., Valerna Hargrove of Warrenton, N.C., Rocky A. Somerville of Warrenton, N.C. and Stanley Somerville of Enfield, N.C.; grandchildren, Karen Whalen, Latasha Whalen, Gloria Whalen, Paul Fenwick, Timmie Bullock, Tanishia Bullock, Ebony Hargrove, Kristy Somerville, and Miquel Hargrove; 12 great grandchildren, her sisters Lucy M. Taylor (Sam) of Lexington Park, MD and Mary E. Morgan of Washington, D.C., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William E. Somerville, her son, James V. Whalen, her brother, Thomas Gough, Jr. and her sister, Mary C. (Teena) Johnson.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 15, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 16922 St. Peter Claver Road, St. Inigoes, MD 20684. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Father D. Shadwell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be John A. Chase, Cornell V. Gough, Michael Barnes, Donald Bright, Jack Johnson and Frank Eason.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
