David Roger Collins, Sr., 67, of Charlotte Hall, MD, formerly of Waldorf, died October 9, 2009 at Washington Hospital Center. Born September 4, 1942 in La Plata, MD, he was the son of Paul Collins and Blanch L. Willett Collins.

After graduating from LaPlata High School, Mr. Collins joined the Air Force and served in France and Germany. In 1969 he married Carol Russell. They were happily married for 40 years. He worked as a typographer, retiring in 2008 from Rockville Printing. As a young man, he loved to play baseball. He loved the water and enjoyed fishing. He was an avid sports fan, and especially liked to watch the Redskins.

David was predeceased by his father, Paul Collins; a brother, Scott Collins and sister Gloria Huss. He is survived by his son, David R. Collins, Jr. (Melissa) of Mechanicsville, MD; daughter, Tracy Johnson (Chris) of Monroe, NJ; mother, Blanche Willett Collins of White Plains; brother Mike Collins of Johnstown, CO and sister Barbara Homan of California, MD; 3 grandchildren, Gavin, Lauren and Raleigh.

The family will receive friends for David's Life Celebration on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. A service will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 12:00 noon in the Brinsfield-Echols Chapel. The Rev. James Chance will officiate. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.

Pallbearers will be David Collins, Jr., Chris Johnson, Thomas Quade, Jerry Bruce, Leroy Jones and Ken Homan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mechanicsville Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 15, Mechanicsville, MD, 20659.
