Mr. Farmer worked for 31 years for the U.S. Department of Defense. He was a four-year Navy World War II veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater. After getting out of the service, he worked for SMO Radio Receiving Station on Radio Station Road until 1969, when he transferred to Walter Reed Medical Center as a warehouse foreman, for which he retired in 1990.
He liked fishing, hunting, crabbing, grilling for his family and playing cards. He always did the dishes because no one else could organize his dishes. He was a big giver and a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He worked hard to support his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Born Dec. 3, 1925 in Newport, he was the son of the late Francis Farmer and the late Mary Farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Nicholas Farmer, Francis Anois Farmer, Joseph Vincent Farmer, and Webster Farmer; sisters, Elizabeth Wills and Marie Ferguson; and grandchild, Regina Marie Proctor. He is survived by his wife, Mary Regina Farmer of La Plata; sons, Thomas A. Farmer Jr. and his wife, Cherilyn Ambrose Farmer, James R. Farmer, Sr. and his wife, Shirley Mae, David J. Farmer, John H. Farmer and Dale Michael Farmer and his wife, Patricia; daughters, Barbara Evelyn Farmer, Mary Evelyn Farmer, Jean Marie Farmer, and Mildred Christine; sisters, Elzene Hicks, Agnes Olaine and Dorothy Dargan; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; special grandaughter, Chajunette Proctor, favorite community son, Thomas Abbey Cole; best friends, Hampton Mason and Cecial McPherson; 20 in-laws and many other famly; and three perspective sons-in-law, Wayne Proctor, Francis Curtis and Michael Hawkins, Sr. |
