Douglas Kurt Schwien of Hughesville, Maryland died on Monday, August 31, 2009 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. He was 52 years old.

Born on January 29, 1957 in Washington, DC, he is the son of Harvey K. Schwien and Helen F. Hardesty.

Doug Schwien lived in Maryland and Pennsylvania. He was a truck driver for DPI and a Harley Davidson Motorcycle mechanic for Cycle Parts in Lancaster, PA. He enjoyed rebuilding antique and vintage motorcycles, racing motorcycles in his youth and continued to enjoy motorcycle racing as he got older, especially the flat track. He loved the outdoors, going kayaking and riding his motorcycle. He was found of dogs, especially his two Jack Russell Terriers "Mary Margaret" and "Spike". As a young boy, Doug went through the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy M. Dohner; his son Brian Kurt Schwien; his mother Helen F. Hardesty and her husband John; his father Harvey K. Schwien; his sister Janice S. Donovan; his nieces Dawn Hall and Kacy Donovan; his great niece Faith Reeder.

Visitation on Friday, September 4, 2009 from 2PM to 5PM at Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Avenue in La Plata, Maryland 20646.

Funeral Service will be on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 4PM at the Raymond Funeral Service.

Interment will be private
