![]() He was a man of extraordinary grace and dignity sent to us by God "for such a time as this." … those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
Roderick Darrell Caine was born June 5, 1971 in Denver, Colorado. He was the first of two children born to Mr. Pompey and Mrs. Athalea Caine. He departed this life at 8:00 am on Friday, August 14, 2009 at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland in the autumn of his 38th year. Roderick professed Christ at an early age and was baptized in Denver, Colorado. He was affectionately called "Rod", "Big Boss" and "Superstar". He attended Denver Public Schools, and graduated from Manuel High School. He was a star basketball player and always a trend setter. Roderick graduated with an Associate Degree from McCook College in McCook, NE in 1991. He attended the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) where he was a star point guard on the basketball team. While at UMES, he met his future wife, Sheri Lewis. They were united in holy matrimony on September 2, 1995. This union was blessed with five children: Roderick "Darrell" (13), Jalen Sherrod (10), Caleb Jarrell (7), Kristopher Michael (6), and Joshua Allen (4). Roderick had a passion for serving others whether in the church or in his community. When he moved to New York, he had a passion for working with young people. After moving his family to Maryland, he joined the Fort Foote Baptist Church, where he was active. A very giving and selfless person who was always known for giving his all, his last, and his time for God's people, he regularly opened his home to neighborhood children and extended family. "Rod" was always one of the most sought out family members for his in-depth knowledge of the family history, a kind and gentle soul, always willing to lend an ear, and offering words of advice, wisdom and encouragement. He was, as he would put it, "A Good Dude." He was an authentic, strong, beautiful, loving person with a kind and generous spirit who dearly loved his children, his 4 month old grandchild Jordan, and adopted sons and daughters. He was a devoted and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, a loving brother, kind neighbor, and loyal friend. Rod's favorite tradition was spending time at family gatherings where every person would enjoy each other. This tradition will live on through his children and grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mrs. Sheri Caine of Waldorf, MD; one devoted daughter, Kayla Roshana (17) of Denver, CO.; five adorning sons, Roderick "Darrell", Jalen Sherrod, Caleb Jarrell, Kristopher Michael, and Joshua Allen, all of Waldorf, MD; one grandchild, Jordan of Denver, CO.; his parents, Mr. Pompey and Mrs. Athalea Caine of Denver, CO.; parents-in-law, Mr. James and Mrs. Lucille Lewis of Brooklyn, NY; sister, Mrs. Cassandra (Richard) White of Denver, CO.; dear cousin (like a sister), Mrs. Bernetta (Mike) Cole of Waldorf, MD and a host of cousins and friends. Viewing, Saturday, August 22, 2009, 10:00 am until time of Service, 11:00 am at Fort Foote Baptist Church, 8310 Fort Foote Road, Fort Washington, Maryland. Interment, Heritage Memorial Cemetery, Waldorf, Maryland. Arrangements entrusted to THORNTON Funeral Home, P.A., Indian Head, Maryland. "Servant of God, well done, rest from thy loved employ, the battle fought, the victory won, enter the master's joy." |
