![]() Elwood "Ellie" Paul Foltz, 89, of Piney Point, MD and formerly of Arlington, VA, died August 18, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital. Born December 3, 1919 in Stanley, VA he was the son of the late Glyndon Paul and Bertha (Fiddler) Foltz.
He was the loving husband of his high school sweetheart, Lena Alice (Lear) Foltz whom he married June 21, 1941 in Central United Methodist Church. He is survived by their children Ronald P. Foltz and his wife Nancy of Sterling, VA, Donald A. Foltz and his wife Pam of Fort Valley, VA and Linda Russell and her husband Sheldon of Valley Lee, MD as well as his siblings Aletha Watson and Thelma Pope both of Winchester, VA, Irene Davis of Colonial Beach, VA, Barbara Rakes of Locust Grove, VA, Gary Foltz of Leesburg, VA, and Earl Foltz of Sterling, VA, as well as his nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Ellie was preceded in death by his siblings Arvilla Herrell and Leonard Foltz. He attended Stonewell Jackson Elementary School and Washington Lee High School in Arlington, VA, where he played both baseball and basketball. He worked for the Arlington County Fire Department retiring in 197l, after thirty years of service, Ellie went to work as an Engineer at Gainsborough Court Apartments and Park Towers in Falls Church, VA. Ellie was very active in Central United Methodist church, where he was a counselor of the young people's group, helped manage the girl's softball team and helped with church dinners. He later started United Methodist Men's Groups in Herndon United Methodist Church and The St. George Island United Methodist Church, where he was a member at the time of his death. In addition to staying active in his church Ellie umpired little league baseball at Four Mile Run Park in Arlington, VA and High School Baseball in Arlington, VA, and Fairfax, VA. Ellie enjoyed spending many happy hours taking facilities and friends out on his boat "Miss Linda", after moving to Piney Point in 1975. He also enjoyed making crafts with shells that he and Alice picked up on the beaches of Florida, when they spent their winters there. Ellie was active in the St. George Island United Methodist Men, the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and Arlington County Retired Employees Association. He was beloved by his large family and many friends who will miss him dearly. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 21, 2009 from 5:30-8:00 PM in St. George Island United Methodist Church, Piney Point, where prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. Services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 10:30 AM in St. George Island United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Schukraft officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be Michael Russell, Alan Foltz, Wayne Betts, Brian Russell, Lewis Foltz, Lynn Thompson, Christopher Baker, Trayton Foltz, and Jonathan Mantz.
