John "Lunatic" Francis Lewis, son of the late James Alfred and Dorothy Ann Lewis, and beloved father of Jamyra Lewis and Roger (Stacy) Vincent, was born on November 25, 1949 in Bryans Road, Maryland. He peacefully departed this life on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. "Johnny" received his education in Charles and Prince George's Counties, Maryland. Johnny began his employment at age 17 at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, MD as a propellant handler. He went on to work at the American University, DC Department of General Services, and the CIA in Langley, VA. Johnny ended his career working with the National Park Service as a Maintenance Worker. Johnny enjoyed fast cars, the Redskins, and he especially love just getting in his car and driving. Johnny enjoyed playing cards; R&B oldies but goodies; going to drag races; and in later years, fishing. He also enjoyed putting his brother Joe to work. Johnny was most proud to be a godfather to William Holmes, Joseph Lewis, Jr., Rachelle Lewis, Sean Jackson, Anthony Jackson (Deceased), Warren Taylor, Jr., Charles Pinkney, and Nashae Hart. Johnny's "ace" buddies were Bernard Boyer, Glenn Barber, and Joy Henton. As well as long time dear friend, Cheryl Criner. His marriage to Deborah Cozart ended in divorce. Johnny was a member of The Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Oxon Hill, MD. He served on the usher board, and was particularly fond of attending bible study. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, James Alfred and Dorothy Ann Lewis; brother, James Lewis; and Sister, Blanche Campbell. Johnny was also very close and fond of his nephew James (Chink) who also preceded him in death. Surviving along with his children are his grandchildren, Kamyra Lewis, Antwon, Ricardo, Unique, and Riley Vincent. Also surviving are five siblings, Mary Ann (Conrad) Young, Estelle (Colbert) Holmes, Van Dyke, Vernon, and Joseph Lewis; and brother-in-law Carl Campbell, Jr. His Viewing will be held on Friday, August 14, 2009 at Thornton Funeral Home Chapel, 3439 Livingston Road (State Route #227, Pomonkey) Indian Head, Maryland from 9:00am until time of Service, 11:00 am. His Interment will be in Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery, 600 Farmington Road West, Accokeek, Maryland. Arrangements provided by Thornton Funeral Home. |
