Frances B. Buckler, age 90 of Prince Frederick died July 29, 2009. Frances was born on May 17, 1919 in Lake City, South Carolina to the late Leland and Betty Howard Brock. She was the youngest of four children. Her brother and two sisters have predeceased her.

When she was young, Frances' family moved to Kingstree, South Carolina where her home was next to the community hospital. Her relationship to the staff from an early age influenced her interest in a career in nursing. She was raised in the Baptist Church and lived by it's teachings all her life. Frances left South Carolina for Washington, D.C. after high school to enter nurses training. While there, her roommate who was from Calvert County, introduced her to the man who she subsequently married, M. Kenneth Buckler. He was a Calvert County native and former Supervisor of Tax Assessments for the county. She had lived in Calvert County since her marriage in 1939. Her husband predeceased her in 1984. She has three daughters who live in Calvert County. They and their spouses are, Melanie and Ken Parsons, Maureen DeMent, and Jenny and Larry Crum. A forth daughter and her husband, Sara and Ken Wayne, live in Suring, Wisconsin. She has eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

Frances worked at the old Calvert County Hospital which is now the county sheriff's office building. After her children were born, she worked for the C&P Telephone Company in Prince Frederick as a Telephone Operator until this service was automated. She later became a Maryland State employee, working in the County Assessment office in the Court House, until she retired in the early 1980's. She was a loving mother and wife who was devoted to her husband and family. Though she loved playing the card game of Bridge with family and friends, she derived her greatest joy just being around and involved with her immediate and extended family. Frances most recently resided at In God's Care Assisted Living Home in St. Leonard's, Maryland where she was wonderfully cared for by capable, loving friends and staff.
