![]() On Monday, July 20, 2009, Mamie Rebecca Baker of Mechanicsville, MD died at the age of 93. She was born on April 7, 1916 in Chaptico, MD. She was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Mary Frances Bowman.
Mamie was married to the late William (Billy) Marshall Baker. She is also preceded in death by her daughter Ann Christeen Whalen and her husband Joseph F. Whalen, Jr.; grand-daughter Margaret Whalen and great-grandson Derrick Bullock; sisters Julia Conway, Annie Edelen, Agnes Marie Bowman, Madeline Reed, Mary Jane Whalen, Bertie Bowman, and brothers Charles Bowman, Jr., John Walter Bowman, James Henry Bowman, and Carroll Emmanuel Bowman; and goddaughters Agnes Watson and Annie Sharp. Mamie leaves to cherish her memories 11 loving children: Retired Lt. Col. William Baker (Blanche), Agnes Baker-Watson, Gladys Duckett (James), Clara Holly, Alice Bankins (Joseph), Ernest Baker (Ann), Margaret Dunn, Helen Bernadette Hawley (Leonard), Mary Charolett Medley (Charles), Janice Spears (James) and Brenda Smallwood (Thomas); her sister Alice Veney; 34 grand children; 40 great-grand children, 3 great-great grand children and one god-daughter. Mamie also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Family and friends will be received on Friday, July 24, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the BRINSFIELD -ECHOLS FUNERAL HOME, 30195 Three Notch Rd, Charlotte Hall, MD where prayers will be recited at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, July 25, 2009, viewing at St. Mary's Newport Catholic Church, 11555 St. Mary's Church Road, Charlotte Hall, MD will commence at 9:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment will commence immediately following Mass at the St. Mary's Church Newport Cemetery. Repast will be in the church hall. Flowers can be sent to the funeral home and donations can be sent on behalf of Mamie Baker's Family and Friends Alzheimer's Walk Team to Alzheimer's Association P.O. Box 1889, LaPlata, MD 20656.
