Helen Elizabeth "Betty" Jones, age 64, passed away July 10, 2009 at her residence in Dunkirk, MD. Betty was born September 17, 1944 in Queens, NY where she lived until moving with her family to Alexandria, VA in 1953. She attended P.S. 249 in Queens until the 4th grade, and in Virginia attended Mt. Vernon Elementary, Thomas Jefferson Middle and George Washington High School, graduating in 1962.

She met James D. Jones in 1963 while dancing at "Uncle Billies" in North Beach, and they married in July of 1964. They lived in Suitland, MD, had a son Robert, known as Robby, in 1965, and moved to Calvert County in 1971.

Betty loved to bowl, enjoyed visiting nature parks, travel, taking pictures, painting, talking to friends, country line dancing, volunteering at Battle Creek Nature Center, participating in archeological digs at Jefferson Patterson Park, working in the Patterson House and volunteering with the county's historic division to preserve local barns. She also enjoyed planting flowers in her yard and keeping track of yearly arrivals of baby blue birds. Betty worked for many years in the offices of the Household Finance lending company. She was also a faithful member of Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church in Owings.
