John Dennis Dean, Jr. 75, died at his home in Laurel Grove, Md. following a lengthy illness on Friday, June 26, 2009.

Born on February 3, 1934 in Leonardtown, Md. he was the oldest son of the late John Dennis and Charlotte Wallace Dean. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Karola Maucher Dean whom he met and married while stationed with the Army in Germany.

He attended elementary school at the Laurel Grove one room school house. He graduated from Margaret Brent High School, class of 1953. Immediately after high school, he enlisted in the US Army. He was trained as a paratrooper and served as a truck master during his tour in Germany. After he left the Army, in 1961 he joined the Metropolitan Police Department, Washington , D.C.and soon was assigned as a motorcycle police officer, traffic division. He retired with a service related disability in 1969 from a job that he loved. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Carolyn Dean, step-sons Ralph, Steven,Eric and Al Lowry. 10 step grandchildren and 1 step great granddaughter, brother, Ford Lee Dean(Linda) and sister, Claudia Dean McDonald (David), nephews, Eric and Brian Dean, and John McDonald, and a niece, Melody Mudd.

Cremation has already taken place. Memorial service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2009 at 11:00 am at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Laurel Grove, with Pastor Ann Strickler officiating.
