![]() Thelma Soper Robinson age 101 of North Beach, MD died June 21, 2009 at Calvert Memorial Hospital. Thelma was born December 9, 1907 in Willows, MD the youngest child of Owen and Bettie Cranford Soper. She was raised on the family farm and was educated in Calvert County public schools.
Thelma was married on April 16, 1926 in Barstow, MD to David Kern Robinson. The couple moved to North Beach in 1933. Mrs. Robinson worked for Robert Meade's Hardware and Lumber Company until it burned in 1946. She then worked at Ewald's Grocery which late was called the North Beach Grocery and the IGA. Mrs. Robinson was elected Treasurer of the Town of North Beach in 1942 and reelected for the next 48 years. She retired in 1990. She was recognized by the Maryland Municipal League Hall of Fame as being the longest serving elected official. Mrs. Robinson opened the first Sunday school at North Beach Union Church. She was active in the PTA and was a charter member of the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was the oldest living member. Mrs. Robinson was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Huntingtown. She was preceded in death by her husband David Kern Robinson, Brother Roy Soper and Sisters Hattie Essex and Ruth Wilburn. Surviving are daughters Betty Freesland of North Beach, MD, Fay Fuschini of Dade City, FL, Nancy Walton of Huntingtown, MD, Sheryl Williams (David) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Marsha King (Willy) of Huntingtown, MD. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Arrangements provided by Rausch Funeral Home.
