James "Jim" William Modlin Sr., 66, of Waldorf, MD, passed away on June 12, 2009, at his home in Waldorf after years of battling COPD.

Jim was born on December 13, 1942, in Washington, DC, to Louise Curtis and Nathan Henry Modlin. He retired from the Department of Defense, the Washington Navy Yard, in 1996 after 32 years of service. Happily married to Judy Modlin for 42 years, he will be remembered dearly by her, and their three children, Melissa Golden, James Modlin, Jr. and Jason Modlin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Louis Modlin and older brother George Modlin and will be greatly missed by his other brothers, Michael, Terry, and Timmy Modlin, and his sister Linda Dixon. Jim and Judy are the proud grandparents of their "Nifty Nine" – Julian Modlin Leicht, Shauna Modlin, Jonathan Modlin, Hazel Modlin, William Patrick Golden, Grace Modlin, Iris Golden, Lucy and Samuel Modlin. Jim will be deeply missed by his large family and friends he considered family.

A viewing will be held at Raymond Funeral Home, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, from 2-4PM and 6-8PM with a celebration of his life being held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Trinity Baptist Church, 2671 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601.
