On Sunday, May 31, 2009, Lola P. Carter of Nanjemoy, Maryland quietly departed this life for one eternal at the Washington Hospital Center. She was born on February 25, 1935 in Marbury, Maryland and was the daughter of the late Dorothy C. and the late Rufus Washington.

Lola was a very giving and caring woman. She loved to cook and often cared for her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She not only opened her heart to others but also her home to those who were in need. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 57 years, George A. Carter, Jr. and a loving mother to her children, Bertha Carroll, Jocelyn Wong, Darlene Farmer, Denise Robinson, George, Melvin, Lawrence, Gloria and Beverly Carter.

Lola was employed at the former, Physicians Memorial Hospital for many years as a Housekeeping Supervisor. She also worked as a hairstylist and a Laundry Aide at the Charles County Nursing Home. Her kindness and love will be missed by many.

In addition to her husband, children and many devoted grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she is also survived by her brothers, Vincent Washington and Charles Washington, sisters, Inez Warren and Laura Washington, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bertha V. and George A. Carter, Sr., daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and a host of other family members and friends.

Her viewing will take place on Thursday, June 4th, 10:00am until time of service 11:00am at the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Nanjemoy, Maryland. Interment Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A.
