![]() Connie Lee Walker, daughter of the late John M. and Lee Etta Thornton Walker was born on December 1, 1945 in Washington, DC.
At an early age Connie attended Greater Zion Baptist Church in Ashburn, Virginia. She was later baptized by the late Rev. Dr. James E. Jefferies, becoming a member of First Baptist Church, Sterling, Virginia. Connie diligently attended bible study, worked in the kitchen, and served on the Usher Board. Connie was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System until her family moved to Virginia. She then attended and graduated from the historic Douglas High School in 1964. She furthered her education at Temple Business School in Washington, DC, receiving a Computer Programming diploma in 1966. In 1988, Connie received an Associates of Arts and Science Degree in Accounting from Northern Virginia Community College. At the age of 27 when her sister, Patricia Walker Garrett passed, Connie adopted her four children so that they would not be separated and would be raised by family. Her home, like her heart, was always opened to family and friends. When entering her doors everyone knew they would always find love, laughter, and guidance. Family gatherings were frequently held in her home. Her motherly love extended beyond the hearts of her children. To many, Connie was a mother, sister, aunt, counselor and friend. She knew each of her loved ones favorite dishes and enjoyed fixing them, frequently adding her own special ingredients. Many will remember Connie for her beautiful smile, humorous ways and peculiar gestures. Connie was ready and willing to lend a hand to others when needed. She was a big supporter of the advancement of the youth, frequently attending and supporting their activities. Her ability to put others needs before her own has been exemplified throughout her life. She was an employee of Marriott International. In her 34 years of employment, she worked in the restaurant, the accounting department and was currently a Human Resources Professional. She was highly respected by her colleagues and management and was nominated twice for the Service Excellence Award, one of the highest recognitions an employee can receive. Suddenly on May 29th Connie departed this earthly life for life eternal. In addition to her parents and sister, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Addison and Andre Neeley. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Derrick of Leesburg, Virginia, Andre of Charleston, West Virginia, Damon of Culpeper, Virginia and Adrienne of Richmond, Virginia; a daughter-in-law, Kim Walker; seven grandchildren, Derrick "Randy", Tracey, Jesse and Christopher Brent, Jericho Walker (whom she raised from birth), Alexander Little and Noah Neeley; four step grandchildren, Damien, Daniel, Brianna, and Shanice Davenport; one uncle, Leon Thornton; three aunts, Yvonne T. Neal, Naomi Walker and Betty Thornton; two God children, Dannette L. Greene and Anthony M. Neal; and a host of relatives and friends.
