![]() A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 10 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Reese officiating. Interment will follow in Joy Chapel Cemetery, Hollywood, MD.
Viewing and Visitation will be Monday, December 11, 2006 from 5PM till 8PM with a prayer service at 7PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel. Bessie Smith Fay, 77, a resident of California, MD died December 7, 2006 at her home from lung cancer. Born December 13, 1928 in Savannah, GA she was the daughter of Stephen P. and Daisy Irene Cline Smith. Mrs. Fay was born in Savannah, GA and moved to Louisville, KY in the early 1930's. She graduated from Atherton High School for Girls and received her BS Degree from the University of Louisville in 1951. She worked as a chemist at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company until she moved to the Washington area in 1959. She was employed at the Bureau of the Census as a statistician for the 1960 Census and continued as a system analyst until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the Hollywood United Methodist Church, NARFE Chapter 969 and the Women of the Moose, Home Chapter. Her husband Paul H. Fay, passed away in 2003. Surviving are her daughter Karen Matlock, her son in-law Lawrence Matlock, her grandson Brian S. English, his wife Donna English and her great grandsons Nathan and Jacob English. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 11, 2006 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A. 41590 Fenwick St. Leonardtown, MD 20650 where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Reese officiating. Interment will follow in Joy Chapel Cemetery, Hollywood, MD.
