On Monday, May 18, 2009, Joyce Ann Washington, of Rison, Maryland quietly departed this life at the Waldorf Center, Genesis Nursing Home, Waldorf, Maryland.

Joyce was born in Riverside, Maryland on March 28, 1949 to the late Nellie Madeline Gutrick Washington and the late William Joseph Washington. She enjoyed helping others and spent many years volunteering at Freedom Landing and the Charles County Adult Daycare Center, both located in La Plata, Maryland. She also enjoyed shopping with the resident's, listening to music and playing bingo.

She leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her Grandmother, Hazel Gutrick, Caretaker, Ollie Johnson; five brothers, William, Harry, Thomas, Jeffery and Larry; two sisters, Linda Bannister and Cindy Patterson; three sisters-in-law, Sherann, Erica and Debbie; two brothers-in-law, Wilbert Bannister and Wade Patterson; seven aunts, Alberta Bransome, Anne Warren, Pearl Smith, Betty Ross, Shirley Lewis, Geraldine Ward and Vyria Cobey; five uncles, Robert Gutrick, Nathanial Warren, Sylvester Smith, Bob Ward, and Prodey Cobey and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her Viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, 9:00am until time of Service, 11:00 am in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A. 3439 Livingston Road, (State Route #227, Pomonkey) Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Her Interment will be in Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Nanjemoy, Maryland.
