Margaret (Peggy) Eileen Schlosser, 89, of Hollywood, MD passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 6, 1936, in Leonardtown, MD to the late Margaret Etoile (Clements) Gulli and Lewis Boothe Graves, Jr.
In her childhood years, Peggy lived on Lawrence Avenue in Leonardtown with her grandmother, Sarah Clements, and two beloved aunts: Mary Alberta "Bertie" and Frances "Eileen" Clements. She had many happy times and adventures with her aunts. It was a fun-filled childhood spent roaming the streets of Leonardtown with her very dear friend, Eleanor (Fenwick) Ripple. She graduated in 1954 from Saint Mary's Academy. On August 30, 1958, Peggy married the love of her life, Donald Alvin Schlosser, at St. Aloysius Church, Leonardtown. Together they celebrated over 59 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on March 29, 2018. Peggy worked at the Beacon Newspaper in her late teens and the First National Bank in Leonardtown in her early twenties, before stopping work to raise her family. She had many stories to tell about her time working at the Beacon and the Bank. In later years, Peggy worked as a Library Aide and a Career Center Aide at Leonardtown High School. She made many friends there and loved working with the students. Peggy was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County. She was extremely interested in county history. Her hobby was genealogy and she volunteered at the St. Mary's County Historical Society for approximately 20 years assisting with family ancestry research. Peggy made many friends there and enjoyed spending her Saturdays at the Old Jail and Tudor Hall. Peggy was an avid reader that frequently visited the county libraries. She enjoyed reading mysteries and romance novels. Her TV favorites included most shows on PBS & PBS-UK, Hallmark, and Turner Classic Movies. She really enjoyed the British actors/actresses. She loved everything equestrian and never missed the Kentucky Derby and other Triple Crown Races. In later years, these became family events complete with the ladies wearing fascinator hats. Peggy loved cats and collected many figurines and other mementos. She also loved figure skating, cooking family favorites, car rides around the county, dining out, stuffed ham, crab cakes and a trip through the A&W Drive Thru for a Root Beer Float. One of Peggy's greatest joys in life was caring for her grandson, Bradley, when he was young. They had many adventures and lots of fun together. He was very special to her. One of Peggy's greatest pleasures was spending time with her family. She loved the holidays and family dinners. Peggy especially loved Christmas, and her house, once decorated, would become a Christmas Wonderland. She made every Christmas special for her family. Her home was the center of many happy family get togethers. The house was full of love and laughter. Peggy is survived by her daughters, Susan Marie Leach (Sam) of Leonardtown, MD, and Sharon Margaret Surdacki (Rick) of Mechanicsville, MD, and her beloved grandson, Bradley Wayne Mattingly of Hollywood, MD. Peggy made many sacrifices in her life to support her family regardless of the endeavor. She constantly encouraged her daughters and grandson to do their best and to look for the simple pleasures in life. Peggy missed Donald deeply and the family takes solace in knowing they have been reunited. The family would like to thank Dr. U.K. Shah, Dr. Minal Shah, Dr. Bilal Ahmed, and St. Mary's County Hospice for the outstanding care that they provided to Peggy. The family is forever grateful for the loving care provided by caregivers Monica, Shawn, Angela, Jane, Yolanda, and Faye. They were affectionally known as "Team Mom." The family will receive friends for Peggy's Life Celebration on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 11:00am to 12:00pm with a Funeral Service beginning at 12:00pm officiated by Pastor James Bell at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
