Daniel Patrick Shea, 78, of Lexington Park, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 1, 2026.
Born on July 25, 1947, in Boston, Massachusetts, Daniel was the son of Donald Patrick Shea of Quincy, Massachusetts and Vivian Mary Brown of Mexico, Maine. He attended Whitman-Hanson Regional High School and graduated in 1965. In 1966, Mr. Shea joined the United States Marine Corps and began a distinguished 20-year military career defined by leadership, discipline, and dedication to service. He completed his initial training at MCB Parris Island and MCB Camp Lejeune, followed by avionic maintenance training at NAS Jacksonville, Florida. Throughout his military career, he served with various helicopter and fixed-wing squadrons and participated in numerous deployments, including overseas service in Viet Nam, Korea, Japan, and Okinawa. Mr. Shea also completed a successful tour of duty as a Marine Corps Drill Instructor at MCRD San Diego, California, and later served four years in Research and Development at MCRDAC Quantico, Virginia, where he spearheaded development efforts for the Marine Corps Tactical Directed Energy Warfare (TDEW) Program. Throughout his service, he graduated with honors from numerous military and technical schools and received many citations and commendations. While serving in the Marine Corps, he continued his education and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southern Illinois University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management. He retired honorably after 20 years of service at the rank of Major/CW05. Beyond his military accomplishments, Daniel was a man of remarkable intelligence, humor, talent, and devotion to his family. He was known for his generosity, organization, strong work ethic, and ability to make those around him laugh. He had a brilliant financial mind, a gift for storytelling, and a lifelong love of music. Musically gifted, he could play the piano, guitar, harmonica, and ukulele, and he possessed a beautiful singing voice. Daniel enjoyed woodworking, fishing, building and creating things with his hands, nightly popcorn routines, and spending time with those he loved most. He was a man of quiet faith, deep loyalty, and unwavering dedication to his family. More than anything, he loved his wife, Sandra, who was truly the love of his life and his best friend for 56 years. He took great pride in ensuring his family was cared for, protected, and supported, always serving as the steady presence and safety net they could count on. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Shea; his children, Kathleen and Daniel; daughter-in-law Ashley; and his cherished grandchildren, Noah and Kya. Daniel lived a full and extraordinary life and leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, laughter, and quiet generosity that will never be forgotten.
