John Charles "BJ" Richardson, 70, of La Plata, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026.
John, known to many as "BJ," was an adored husband, caring father, loving grandfather, and beloved friend. He spent many years in government service before retiring and becoming co-owner of FasTrax Slot Car Racing in Southern Maryland, where he built more than a business - this was a place where he shared his enthusiasm for slot cars and built lasting friendships within the community.
BJ is survived by his devoted wife, Darlene, who was his partner in life and with whom he shared countless cherished memories. Often found side by side, enjoying the simple joys of life and making memories that will last a lifetime.
BJ also survived by Darlene's daughter, Heather Friedrich, and her partner, Rick Reynolds. His children, Brandy Richardson, Dawnna Pfarr, and her husband Andy Pfarr; John Charles "JC" Richardson II, and their mother Annie Hernandez. He is also survived by Marie Absher and her sons, Billy Absher and his wife Karen Absher, and Pat Absher and his wife Nicole Absher; his sister, Bonnie Mullin; and many grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ellen Richardson, and his brother, Lester.
BJ's appreciation for classic cars was shown through his 57' Ford Custom and his '69 Ford F-100. Whether he was at a car show or just out for a drive, those moments meant even more because they were shared with the people he loved most.
Above all, BJ's greatest pride and joy was his family. His love for them was undeniable and shone brightly whenever he spoke of his children and grandchildren. He was a man who led with his heart, always putting those he loved first. He will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for cars, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him. His presence, humor, and steady support will be greatly missed.
