Keri Ann Thomas (Farrell) passed away on March 26, 2026, after a courageous 3-year battle with an aggressive form of bone cancer: Dedifferentiated Chondrosarcoma. She is survived by her husband Travis and beloved children Colt (8) and Camryn (6). She is survived by her loving parents Jim and Linda Farrell, formerly of St. Mary's County, now living in Chester MD; her brother, Brian Farrell, and sister-in-law, Stephanie, who reside in Silver Spring MD along with Keri's two nephews, Owen and Eamon. She was predeceased by her sister Kelly who passed away in 1983. Keri is also predeceased by her grand-parents, Agnes and Dick Russell of Compton, MD and Adele and Everett Farrell of Bushwood, MD. Keri is survived by her Father-in law and Mother-in-law, Vernon and Rosetta Thomas of California, MD. Keri is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who mourn her passing.
The numerous great friends of Keri held a special place in her heart. They were with her throughout her illness until the day of her passing helping wherever and whenever they could. Those of us fortunate to witness this love amongst friends will never forget it. Keri was born at St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, MD on June 27th, 1984. She attended Father Andrew White S.J elementary school and St. Mary's Ryken High School class of 2002. She was a 2006 graduate of Loyola University of Maryland. She obtained her Masters of Social Welfare from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2010. Beginning as a teenager, Keri discovered the importance of service to others by helping her grandpa Russell deliver Christmas Caring packages throughout the community. She also did other small service projects throughout her years at FAW and St. Mary's Ryken. Keri became a strong advocate for individuals experiencing homelessness through different volunteering experiences while at Loyola. This led to her joining the Jesuit Volunteer Corp (JVC), where she participated in a one-year volunteer experience that was rooted in JVC's four core values: spirituality, simple living, community, and social justice. Keri was assigned to St. Joseph Center in Venice, CA as a Case Manager in a homeless drop-in center. After her one year of service, she remained at St. Joseph's for another year before attending UCLA for her master's. Upon graduation, Keri returned to work at St. Joseph Center doing outreach on the streets to support individuals experiencing homelessness assisting with mental health services and finding permanent housing. Keri made many lifelong friends in California. These friends became part of an extended network of friends from her childhood, high school, college and adult life scattered seemingly throughout the country and the world. Keri treasured being with the friends and relatives she loved. For the last two years of her life, she received an incredible amount of support from the many people who knew and loved her. Keri and Travis originally met while in college in 2012. Although they lived on opposite coasts, they started talking on the phone daily and had numerous visits back and forth. After one year of long distance, Keri moved to DC to be closer to Travis and her family. They were married in 2015 and had two beautiful children soon after – Colt in 2017 and Camryn in 2019. In 2022, she and her family moved to Watertown Massachusetts, so Travis could start a new job with the New England Sports Network. Keri began a new position as Vice President of Programs & Services at St. Francis House in Boston. Keri was so fulfilled and loved this role assisting more than 500 individuals a day who needed the basic dignity and support of a hot meal, shower, clothing, housing, mental health treatment, and employment. Keri's passion for her professional work was so important to her, but her most valued job was being a mother to Colt and Camryn. They enjoyed going on outings to local farms, beaches, restaurants, and all normal kids' activities. Travis and Keri prioritized instilling strong values in their children, especially supporting those who are marginalized and struggling. Keri was diagnosed with cancer in October 2023. Despite receiving a very rare cancer diagnosis with few treatment options, the doctors at Dana Farber Cancer Center and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston did everything they could to prolong her life. Throughout her battle with cancer, Keri often seemed to be the consoler to her family and friends rather than the other way around. Travis, Jim and Linda are eternally grateful for the compassionate care she received in Boston by some of the best doctors and medical staff in the world. Thank you to St. Francis House for your support during Keri's illness. Thank you to NESN and other friends and organizations who provided gifts, gift cards and food. Although support came from so many, we must recognize the support and love of Keri's dear friend, Caroline, in Boston who helped in so many ways. Keri enjoyed her life. She loved being around people, laughing, going to concerts, dining out, etc. Most of all she loved being a wife and mother. Keri will be missed by all of us. Her passing is a great loss for those who are often ignored, forgotten and ridiculed because of their situation in life. She was a true soldier in the fight against homelessness in the US. May she rest in peace. Family and friends are welcome to come celebrate Keri's life by gathering for visiting hours on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 22800 Washington Street, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Reverend Edward Hegnauer. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Keri's name to: Dana Farber Research, P.O.
