Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Coulby Bowling, age 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026 at Taylor Farm Assisted Living in Bushwood, Maryland, after a long journey with Alzheimer's disease. Born on December 18th, 1942, in Newburg, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Edgar M. and Irene (Stine) Coulby.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Charles Brent "Peanut" Bowling, and her siblings Harry, James, John, Adrian, Howard, and Joseph Coulby.

A lifelong resident of Newburg, Betty cherished living on the family farm, surrounded by the people and places she loved most. She graduated from La Plata High School and began her career with the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. After marrying, she returned to Charles County and worked for the Charles County Health Department in La Plata, and later serving as an office manager and billing specialist for several medical practices, including Dr. George Shultz. Her expertise in the medical field led to her recruitment by the College of Southern Maryland, where she taught courses in medical coding and insurance processing. Later in life, she worked as an area manager for Lia Sophia Jewelry.

Betty was deeply committed to youth programs in her community. Alongside her lifelong friend Lee Giannini, she co-led the Piccowaxen 4-H Club, which they founded in the 1970's. In the early 2000's, she helped establish a youth group at Christ Church Wayside, where she organized craft sessions, cooking workshops, and field trips that blended fun with faith.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and had a lifelong love of sports especially softball, playing for the Glasva Twins. After joining the Wicomico Shores Yacht and Country Club, Betty and Peanut discovered their love of golf. She enjoyed countless rounds with friends and organized many golf weekends to courses such as Shenvalee Golf Resort. She was also a Unified Partner during the inaugural year of the Special Olympics Charles County golf program, proudly bringing home a Silver Medal with her partner.

Betty is survived by her sons Charles "Chip" Bowling, Jr. (Lynn) and Dale Bowling; her granddaughters Holly Mudd (Adam) and Katelyn Shumaker (Phillip); and her great-grandchildren Cora Mudd and Holt Shumaker. She is also survived by her brothers Charles (Eleanor), Phillip (Barbara), and Edgar Coulby, her sisters Mary Ganus and Lorraine Stamm (Charles); and many nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her caregiver, Cathy Johnson, and to the staff at Taylor Farm Assisted living for their compassionate care.
