Janet Lee Sullivan, 89, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, in Bushwood, Maryland. Born on July 15, 1936, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Jesse Eugene Goddard, Sr. and Hazel Gertrude (Schultz) Goddard.

Janet graduated from Surrattsville High School in Clinton, Maryland. She worked for C&P Telephone Company (later Bell Atlantic & Verizon), starting as an operator and retiring as a manager. She loved her career with the phone company, especially her job as director of the Pioneer office. After her retirement, she and her husband, Tom, moved to their beautiful home in Golden Beach. She loved working with her brothers at the family vegetable stand in Clinton. Janet also spent 25 years volunteering at St. Mary's Hospital in Ambulatory Surgery, a "job" she truly enjoyed. Many patients and families commented on how she made them feel calm and at ease for their procedures.

Janet was also a world traveler; whether close to home or around the world, she loved to go. She went on over 25 cruises, including Alaska and Hawaii, a trip to Hong Kong, several European tours, including a hiking tour in Switzerland. And then there were almost 30 "Mystery Trips" where she would get on a bus not knowing the destination. From Maine to Kentucky, to South Carolina, and many states in between. Those trips were some of her favorites.

A woman of faith and commitment to her community, Janet was a loving member of Christ Episcopal Church, Clinton, Maryland. Her dedication to her church included serving as a lay reader, vestry member, active ECW member, serving on Turkey dinners, Thrift Shop, and the list goes on. Janet's greatest joy was her family and friends. She is survived by her brothers Charles Goddard and Paul Goddard; children from her marriage to William Watson - Sharon Potter (Larry) of Mechanicsville, MD, Michael Watson (Cindy) of Brandywine, MD, and daughter-in-law, Jeana Watson of LaPlata, MD. She was affectionately known as Me-mommie to her grandchildren: Samantha Lance (Philip), Victoria Miller (Matthew), Elizabeth Clark (Christopher), Nicole Verhun (Christopher), Caitlynn Watson (Dan), and Sarah Tomlinson (Cody). She cherished her role as great-grandmother to Caleb Lance, Leah Lance, Carolina Miller, Dean Verhun, Naomi Lance, Cavan Clark, Rebecca Lance, Matthew Miller, Jr.,Eleanor Clark and Waylon Tomlinson. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her husband, Thomas A. Sullivan; brother, Jesse (Skip) E. Goddard, Jr.; son, David W. Watson; her dear aunt and uncle, Esther and William Goddard; sister-in-law, Dorothy Goddard, and devoted companion, Bruce E. Mottern.

Janet will be remembered fondly by all who knew her for her unwavering devotion to family and friends. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome, and strangers became friends quickly. Her kindness and dedication left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to share in her life. The family is grateful for those who cared for Janet at home, as well as the staff of Taylor Farm Assisted Living, Bushwood, MD, for the care and support they provided to her and the family during Janet's battle with Alzheimer's.

Family and friends will be received for a visitation on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home, Charlotte Hall, MD, as well as Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 8710 Old Branch Avenue, Clinton, MD.
