Thelma L. Northrup, age 97, of La Plata, MD, beloved wife of the late John R. Northrup died Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Thelma was born in Waterbury, CT on June 21, 1928 to the late Thomas and Mildred Lynch. She resided in Milford, CT until 1987 when she and John moved to Las Vegas, NV. In 2020, she relocated to La Plata, MD where she lived with her daughter. Prior to marriage she worked for the Federal Government and then 25 years as a legal secretary. Upon retirement she didn't stop but worked as retail clerk for many years. During her lifetime, she was an active member of the Episcopal church serving as lay minister, altar guild and vestry member. She belonged to the Daughters of the King, was a Past Pocahontas in the order of Redmen, a lifelong member of the Shepherds of Bethlehem and a Grange member. She also belonged to the Milford Volunteer Fire Dept Auxiliary and was a founding member along with her husband of the women's auxiliary drill team. She enjoyed her work with the fire department and their marching in parades throughout the state of Connecticut. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, sister Elayne and brother-in-law Walter. She is survived by her daughters Lee (Bob) Adrian, Susan (Michael) Fritz, and Jacquelyn (John) O'Toole, Seven (7) Grandchildren, eight (8) Great Grandchildren and two (2) Great Great Grandchildren. We were fortunate to have her as long as we did. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, crosswords and her family.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 4535 Piney Church Road, Waldorf, MD 20602 on 14 March at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow. A memorial service will also be held in Ansonia, CT at a time to be determined. Interment will be in The Veterans Cemetery in Boulder, NV on 10 July 2026 where she will join her beloved husband, John. We are asking those that attend to wear colors, we want this to be a celebration of life.
