John Dennis Raley III (Denny), 79, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026 at St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.

Denny was born May 3, 1946 in Leonardtown, MD, to the late John Dennis Raley Jr. and Dorothy F. Behrens. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother Virginia R. Raley.

Denny graduated from Margaret Brent High School in 1964 and went on to build a meaningful career as a Civil Engineer, dedicating 28 years to the State Highway Administration, retiring in 1992 .

Denny was known for his loving, generous, and hardworking nature. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and remained deeply loyal to his friends and family. Through every health challenge he faced, he showed remarkable resilience, strength and hope. Denny made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will be cherished always.

Beyond his work, Denny found great joy in crabbing, keeping his lawn pristine with his John Deere tractors, attending NASCAR races cheering on Dale Earnhardt, enjoying country music particularly Alan Jackson, and spending time being social with those around him. He especially cherished every moment he could spend with his family — sharing good food, living on and caring for the family farm, and keeping up with friends. These simple pleasures brought him immense happiness and reflected the deep love he had for family and friends.

Denny was the loving husband of Brenda Raley, whom he married July 11, 1970, celebrating 55 wonderful years together. He is also survived by his son Jay Raley (Julia) and daughter Heather Pilkerton (Craig). Denny was especially proud of his five grandchildren, Haley Brickerd (Cody), Carlie Mitchell (Clay), Nathan Raley, Lillian Raley and Jake Raley. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Pingleton, sister-in-law, Alice Tiede along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the many stories and cherished memories that tell the story of Denny's life — a life filled with love, strength, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those around him.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Seekford, J.R. Guy, Al Raley, CD Raley, Bobby Raley and Austin Pingleton. Honorary pallbearers will be Allie Raley, Bill Reed, Jimmy Downs, Steve Hardesty and Juan Moran.

Contributions to be made to the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad & Immaculate Conception Church.
