Virginia Mae "Didgy" Royston, 85, of Valley Lee, MD passed away on December 25, 2025 at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Waldorf, MD.

She was born on January 17, 1940 in Valley Lee, MD to the late John Stephen Lynch, Sr. and Rose Helena (nee: Aud) Lynch.

Didgy is a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County. She is a 1958 graduate of St. Mary's Academy. She was a telephone operator in Valley Lee when she met her beloved husband, Joseph Earl Royston. They married on August 27,1960 at St. George Catholic Church and shared 65 wonderful years of marriage.

Joe's Air Force career opened the door to exciting adventures, taking them to stations in Texas and sunny California, where they created cherished memories together. She had many fond memories of managing a large apartment complex while in California. Upon their return to St Mary's County, she earned her cosmetology license and spent her career as a skilled beautician. Her warm and outgoing nature made her a natural at connecting with people, and her love of being social is what inspired her to pursue a career in cosmetology, where she brought joy and confidence to countless clients over the years.

Didgy volunteered with Meals on Wheels for over 40 dedicated years. She enjoyed travelling on pilgrimages to Ireland, Rome, Italy and Fatima, Portugal, trips to Ocean City with her "Yaya Sisters", and the Shenandoah Mountains. She was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of St. George Catholic Church attending daily mass and volunteering serving church dinners for decades. Above all else, Didgy had a passion for helping people- family, friends and strangers.

In addition to her beloved husband, Joe, Didgy is also survived by her sister, Margaret Bridgwater of Leonardtown, MD, brother, Robert Lynch of Valley Lee, MD; brothers-in-laws, Orem Hammett of Valley Lee and Rick Loy of Leonardtown and her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Olive Gagliano, John Lynch, Jr., Mary Anne Hammett, and Thomas Lynch.

Family will receive friends on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Reverend John Nguyen and Reverend Paul Nguyen at 11:00 a.m.; at St. George Catholic Church, 19199 St. Georges Church Road, Valley Lee, MD 20692. Interment will be held at a later date.
