Vernon Carl Smith, aged 84, passed away on the 23rd of October following complications of various health issues. He was born March 31, 1941 to Carl and Mary Smith of Canonsburg, PA where he spent his childhood.

Vernon received a Masters degree in Education from California University of Pennsylvania. He spent much of his career as an educator in the classroom and as an Aerospace Education Specialist for NASA's AESP program. His entrepreneurial streak led him to try his hand at a number of business ventures over the years as well.

His love of teaching extended into his spiritual life. As an ordained minister, Vernon taught the scriptures to friends, family and numerous congregations over the years. He touched the lives of a great many who will miss him in this life. He remained steadfast in his faith and as the body failed, his spirit was ready to move on.

Vernon was happily married for 48 years to Eleanor (Gallagher) who preceded him in death. He is survived by three children, Brian Smith and his wife Joanna of Waldorf, MD; Devon (Yoder) Smith and husband Andrew of Myersville, and Jason Smith and wife Vigdis of Fjerdingby, Norway. He has six grandchildren, Caleb, Nathaniel, Zebulon, Jaelle, Anders, and Nikolas.

Vernon will be laid to rest at Wesleyan Memorial Cemetery in White Plains, MD. A private memorial will be held among immediate family.
