John Allison Abell passed away peacefully at the age of 66 on October 6, 2025, after a decades-long, heroic battle with cancer. A man of deep and unwavering faith, he is now in God's hands. John was the best father, a loving husband, a cherished son, and the kindest friend anyone could ask for.

John was born on January 22, 1959, in Leonardtown, MD. He is a graduate of Ryken High School and Towson State University, where he has made some of his best friends and lifelong memories. St. Mary's County, more affectionately known as "the County," always remained a favorite spot of his, often visiting friends and family, doing business or grabbing a bite to eat.

John's kindness and charisma led him to a successful career in sales. Over the years, he sold everything from printers to logistics services, most notably through his time at AIT Worldwide. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, make them feel seen and heard and know exactly what they needed in their stomachs on any given day, whether that was raspberry coffee cake, Double Tree chocolate chip cookies or a case of ice-cold beer.

On November 21, 1987, John married the love of his life, Carolyn. Their wedding was filled with joy, laughter, and the warmth of friends and family - a day that marked the beginning of nearly four decades of love and partnership. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on family, faith and community.

John's family's happiness always came first. He found so much joy in helping people succeed, especially through sport. He coached youth soccer, basketball, t-ball, softball and baseball at St. Matthias for all the "knuckleheads" that wanted to play. Whether it was through coaching them at St. Matthias or showing up to every game in high school and college, John's heart was in watching his daughters compete and succeed.

He cared deeply about the things that mattered most and never hesitated to lend a hand, often going above and beyond for others. Just as he meticulously maintained his car to an incredible 540,000 miles, he took the same pride in caring for his home and yard – proudly calling himself "Farmer John." He tended not only to his own garden and lawn, but also to those of family members and neighbors. A steady presence in the neighborhood, he could often be seen walking the dogs, always ready with a wave, a friendly chat, or a helping hand. To his daughters, he was a constant source of strength – showing up with support, wisdom, and unconditional love.

Sports were a constant in his life - he was a passionate fan of the Washington Commanders, Baltimore Orioles, Maryland Terrapins, and Washington Wizards, centering athletics events as a time to get excited, connect with friends and have something to cheer about every season of the year.

His faith was the cornerstone of his life. John went to Church every Sunday and became friends with the ushers and other members of the congregation. John and Carolyn raised their daughters in the Catholic faith, providing them everything they need to be their own faithful followers of Christ. John's presence made life better for everyone lucky enough to know him.

John was preceded in death by his father, Gerald. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn; his daughters, Johnnie Allison and Jamie; his mother, Patricia; his brothers, Jerry, Dale, and Billy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the University of Maryland Marlene and Stuart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, in honor of John's courageous fight.

A Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 12010 Woodmore Road, Mitchellville, MD, 20721 at 11:00 AM, with guests invited beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment is private.
