Joshua Wayne Stephenson, 40, of Newburg, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on August 4, 2025. His passing leaves a deep ache in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Born on January 24, 1985, Josh was a longtime resident of Southern Maryland and a graduate of La Plata High School. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Jean Stephenson, and his two grandfathers, James L. Jones and George A. Stephenson.

Josh is survived by his father, Darryl Stephenson; his sister, Becky Stephenson (Daniel); his nephew, Camden; his nieces, Aubree and Macie; and his two grandmothers, Katherine A. Jones ("Ann") and Sandy K. Stephenson. He leaves behind a large community of family and friends.

While he began his career as an electrician, Josh was best known for his dedication and skill as a plumber. He was often relied on in the community—not just for his expertise, but for the humor, reliability, and hard work he brought to every job. You may have been his last stop of the day at 1 a.m., but he was always going to make sure the job got done.

Josh was known for his quick wit, sharp tongue, and a sense of humor that could light up any room. One of his closest friends said it best: "You never knew what you would get into, but if you hung out with him, you were having a great time." Whether he was sharing a joke, lending a hand, or diving into a new adventure, Josh had a way of making people feel alive in his presence.

In his free time, Josh loved playing cards, where his competitive streak and clever mind shone bright. He had a passion for crabbing and loved a good hunt. Josh was an avid reader, a wrestling fanatic, and enjoyed spending his early years at the racetrack with his dad. On Sundays in the fall, you could count on Josh to be cheering for his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

Those who knew Josh will remember his laughter, his unfiltered honesty, and his devotion to the people he loved. His absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled, but his stories, spirit, and love will remain with us always.

Services will be announced at a later date, and all who knew and loved Josh are welcome to gather and celebrate his life.

We ask that, in letting his spirit live on, you take this time to reach out to a loved one or friend—share a laugh, reminisce about something joyful, or simply lend a heartfelt hello.
