Joseph was born April 15, 1952, in LaPlata, MD to Joseph Bowie and Ethel Bowie Burch. He was a graduate of LaPlata High School, class of 1970. After high school, he started his career in the construction field. In 1972, he started a career position with Mitchell Supply, first laminating countertops and then moving on to building wall panels, floor and roof trusses and stairs. He left Mitchell Supply after 28 years to pursue a dream to acquire his family's business. In 1998, that dream became a reality when with the help of a partner, they made the purchase of Goose Bay Marina and Campground. After 24 years, even though the business was sold, he still helped whenever needed. In retirement, Joe Boy stayed busy outdoors. He had a passion for planting a large vegetable garden and enjoyed being on his tractor. His other hobbies included boating, crabbing, fishing and hunting – waterfowl, deer, rabbits and squirrels. He loved feeding the birds and watching hummingbirds. He cherished moments spent with his son, grandchildren, and especially his great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph William Bowie and Ethel Marie Burch. He leaves behind his love and devoted wife Carol (Rappa) Bowie, his son Billy Bowie (Anita), his 4 grandsons Kyle (Samantha Howard), Blake, Ryan, Shane, great granddaughter Sophia, and sister Barbara Wells (Ron). Services will be held at LaPlata Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Viewing starts at 10:30 AM, funeral service begins at 12:00 PM. Burial to follow at Nanjemoy Baptist Church.
