![]() Harold Lee Willard II, lovingly known as Hawk, 70, of Leonardtown, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
Born on April 8, 1955, in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, to parents Harold Lee Willard and Leahrae Babel Willard, Hawk was a man of service who had an undying love for his family and America's true sport, baseball. Raised across the United States and outlying territories- Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Maryland, and Guam, to name a few- Hawk was a lifelong athlete, playing football and baseball throughout his life. He went on to play collegiate football at James Madison University (1973-1977), serving as the quarterback for the Dukes until the receipt of the Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. Hawk was a dutiful husband, father, son, and brother. Married to the love of his life, Becky Willard, in 1983 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington Park, Maryland, they went on to have two sons, Drew Willard (1985), and Garth Willard (1987). Raised with two siblings, Mark Willard (of Baton Rouge, Louisiana) and Darryl Willard (of Hazel Green, Alabama), his life with his brothers, boys, and friends was filled with long summer days at the ballfield, either behind the plate or in the dugout. Alongside a robust career with the Department of Defense and MWR as an athletic director at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Hawk also served for over 50 years as a player, manager, and league officer for the Charles- St. Mary's (CHASM) Baseball League. His commitment to the sport and the community it fostered is rivaled only by his faith in God and commitment to his community at Trinity Lutheran Church, where he and Becky have been members for over four decades. A meticulous record-keeper, Hawk taught those around him the importance of memory and sentiment. His will continue to thrive in both his baseball and church communities through the hundreds of hours spent sharing his faith and love of the game with those around him. Hawk is survived by his wife, Becky, and two sons, Drew and Garth, his brothers, Mark and Darryl, uncles, Joe, Warren and Tom, cousins Susan and Bert, and multiple nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both his mother and father, Leahrae and Harold, mother-in-law, Hilda Stutts, aunts, Ceila McKim and Eileen Reedy, and his niece, Niki Willard Neal.
