Susan Marie "Susie" Spalding of Dentsville, MD died April 22nd at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore. Born April 4, 1961 in La Plata, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. Spalding and Irene A. Spalding.

She was preceded in death by her sister Linda Lee Spalding.

She attended Archbishop Neale School and graduated from St Mary's Academy in Leonardtown. She was an active member of Charles County Volunteer Rescue Squad since 1980. Susie was a Life Member, serving in numerous capacities over the years including President, Captain and Chief.

She had served as delegate to the Charles County Association of Emergency Medical Services, the Executive Committee and the Southern Maryland Volunteer Association. She was the County EMS Chief from 2002-2004. Susie was the recipient of many community service awards over the years, including the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Distinguished Service Award.

She was employed by the Charles County Government for over 25 years and was a Supervisor for the Communications 911 Center.

Susan is survived by her mother Irene, her brother Chuck and his wife Joanne of Palm Beach Gardens, Fl, her brother Rocky and his wife Kim of Golden Beach, MD, her nephew Matthew Spalding and nieces Hillary and Megan Spalding.

Susie was passionate about was her rescued dogs Pip and Jada. She was a incredible woman of strength and love, her sense of humor and dedication to this community will be missed by that all that knew her.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Charles County Rescue Squad or The Sacred Heart Church Cemetery Fund.

Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Church in La Plata on Sunday on April 26, 2009 from 4 pm until 8 pm. Prayers will be held at 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Church on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 10 with Fr. Ron Potts officiating. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery.
