Clarence Joseph Bauer, Jr., 85, of Colton's Point, MD and formerly of Pittsburg, PA died April 21, 2009 in Bushwood, MD. He was born on October 10, 1923 in Pittsburgh, PA and was the loving husband of the late Pauline Evelyn Wood Bauer whom he married on June 12th, 1948 in Pittsburgh, PA and who preceded him in death in January 1996.
He is survived by his children: Edward Bauer of Ridge, MD, Richard Bauer of Dunn Loring, VA, Christine Hook of Houston, TX and Joan Bauer of Leesburg, VA as well as three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Alice Bauer and his brother Donald Bauer. Clarence attended and graduated from Duqeusne University in Pittsburgh and moved to St. Mary's County from Pittsburgh, PA in the fall of 1986. He served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II Veteran. He also belonged to the American Legion Post 221. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 23, 2009 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD where prayers will be said at 7:00 PM and at 7:15 PM by the American Legion Post 221. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 24, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Avenue, MD with Fr. William Gurnee officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be John Clarke, Bernie Owens, Charles Johnson, Ellis Hayden, George Farr and Todd Farr.
