Gloria Elizabeth Johnson, 93, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away on March 30, 2025. On December 10, 1931, Gloria was born to Joseph and Mary Long in Leonardtown, MD.

After graduation, Gloria started her career with the National Institutes of Health, retiring after 30 years as a biologist in cancer research. Her passion for science and dedication to her field earned her a reputation as a diligent and insightful researcher.

On February 28, 1949, Gloria married the love of her life, Luke Johnson. They were blessed with two children, Richard Johnson of Westminster, MD, and Luke Johnson, who predeceased his mother. Gloria and Luke were married for 73 wonderful years.

In her leisure time, Gloria delighted in gardening, fishing, and crabbing, as well as participating in senior center activities like playing cards and line dancing. Her vibrant spirit and love for the outdoors were infectious, often drawing friends and family to join her in these joyful pursuits.

Gloria was predeceased by her parents, beloved husband, son, and siblings Joseph, Thomas, James, Alice, Mary, and Grace. She is survived by her son, grandchildren Jerrod, Angie, Teresa, Cindy, Keith, as well as fifteen great-grandchildren.

On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the family will receive friends for the visitation from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm, with the service beginning at noon. Interment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20906, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 11:30 am.
