Elvan Allen Hedges, 91, of Bryans Road, Maryland, passed away peacefully in his home on March 27, 2025. Born on May 25, 1933, in Indian Head, Maryland, Elvan lived a life of dedication, service, and love for his family and community.

Elvan began his career as a milkman for Safeway before proudly serving his country. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 16, 1953, serving in the infantry for eight years, including time in the Korean War. Following his military service, he became an explosive hauler for the Naval Propeller Plant, where his hard work and leadership led him to the position of Transportation Director.

A man devoted to his community, Elvan was one of the charter members of the Bryans Road Volunteer Fire Department. His commitment extended beyond emergency services; he was a founding member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, a steadfast supporter of the local Boy Scouts Club, and a proud member of the Lions Club for over 50 years.

In the 1970s, Elvan's entrepreneurial spirit led him to purchase school buses, founding Hedges Bus Service—now H&H Bus Service. He expanded his ventures to include Hedges Towing and Hedges Radio Sales.

Beyond his work, Elvan found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved boating, camping cross-country, eating at Marie's, watching WWE just about every night and watching traffic on 210 from his porch. He adored country music, enjoyed racing cars, flying kites with his grandchildren, and taking his great-grandchildren for tractor rides. He took great pride in cutting his grass and relaxing at his beloved river house, but above all, he cherished time with his family and devoted wife, Joan.

Elvan is survived by his son, Mike Hedges Sr. (Tammy), and his daughter, Beverly Hill (JC); his grandchildren, Dawn (Shane), Mike Jr. (Robin), Mark (Sandy), Lyndsey (Joey) and Rebecca (Matt); and his great-grandchildren, Paige (Danny), Matthew, Evan, Kendal, Connor, Kaden, Caleb, Leah, Jayce and many more. His legacy of hard work, kindness, and dedication to family and community will live on in the lives of all who knew him.

A man of unwavering commitment and generosity, Elvan Allen Hedges will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
