Col. Stephen Douglas Haley, Sr. (USMC retired) passed away on February 20, 2025 peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife Robin, his children Jodi Morton (Darren), Kathi Whitbey (Jonathan), Stephen Haley Jr (Stephanie), Michelle Marin (Alex), Cheryl Dutton (Scott) and Leslie Vickers (Tyson); 14 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Jack, and John Morton (Sabrina); Madeleine, Greta, and Sam Haley; Seth, Molly, Megan, Max and Jake Marin; Kelsey and Kendall Vickers; and Aubrey Dutton; and great granddaughter Skylar Morton. He is also survived by his sister Cindy Fortin and brother James Haley (Phyl), numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
Steve served honorably in the US Marine Corps for 30 years as an Air Traffic Controller and CH-46 helicopter pilot, call sign "Thunder Phrog". He earned many awards and was honored often for his career and leadership. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lt. Col Harold L. Haley, Sr., Betty Jane Siebert Haley and brother Harold L. Haley, Jr. (Corky).
After retiring from the Marine Corps, Steve settled in St. Mary's County and worked for METCOM, and then DCS where he retired a second time. Steve was a diehard Baltimore Ravens fan and spent many weekends each fall at the games cheering them on with other family members. He and Robin enjoyed trips to Vegas and spending time with all of their children and grandchildren. Steve was also an avid golfer and had a close knit group of friends he played with often.
Family invites friends to a memorial gathering on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 2pm to 4pm with a memorial service starting at 4pm at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Rd, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
