Howard Eugene Manning, 91 years old, of Prince Frederick, MD, passed away on February 10th, 2025 while at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Spa Creek in Annapolis.

Howard was born and delivered by his grandmother's brother in a small bedroom on the family farm in Smackover, Arkansas. There he lived with his grandmother and step-grandfather, until he became a teenager and went to live with his parents, Howard A. and Perla Mae Manning (Stedman), in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Howard (Gene) enlisted in the U. S. Navy after a short while living in Shreveport. He rapidly attained the rate of CTC (Communications Technician, Chief) serving first in San Diego, then Guam, followed by Bremerhaven, Germany, Winter Harbor, Maine, and the Panama Canal Zone, until his final duty station in Washington DC. Howard proudly admired the Navy and loved serving as a Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from the Navy, Howard worked as a Communications Manager for ChemTrec where he supported responders dealing with chemical emergencies.

Howard met and married Joan Manning (Isakson) while stationed in San Diego. The couple marked 61 years of marriage until Joan passed away in 2017. Howard believed he and his wife were both sailors who loved adventures and supported each other during their travels.

Howard's children include Paul E. Manning (Diana), Rebecca M. Lowe (David), Glenn H. Manning (Mary Ellen), Eric K. Manning, and a dear long time Swedish daughter, Karin Apelman (Johan): grandchildren Kathryn, Travis, Kelly, Lesa, step-granddaughter Mira, Leah, Glenn, Jamie, Jacob, and Sarah: great-grandchildren Gabriella, Alexis, Brawley, and Bodhi.

Through his hard work, his ethics, his honesty, his devotion to his wife, and family, Howard left a blueprint for life (which his extended family is following) and his legacy.
