![]() On February 15, 2025, Margaret Ann Boggs, loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 85.
Margaret was born June 7, 1939, in La Plata, Maryland to Charles Joseph Drinks and Margaret Ethel (Huntington) Drinks. She spent her entire childhood living in Popes Creek, Maryland. After graduating from Archbishop Neale High School, Margaret began working for the FBI and then the Government Printing Office for a few years before becoming a stay-at-home mother. Margaret married the love of her life, Burkey Wan Boggs, May 9,1959, at St. Ignatius Church, Chapel Point. Together they raised five children. Margaret was very active in the community and her Church. She was a teacher's aide for CCD class, a leader for her three daughters 4-H Club, and a volunteer at Archbishop Neale School as a teacher's aide for eight years. She served on the Clarks Run Neighborhood Association, the Clarks Run Welcoming Committee and was the editor for the community newsletter. She and her husband put on the Clarks Run Fishing Derby for over 19 years. Margaret was a member of the Sacred Heart Church Sodality Group for over 30 years serving as Secretary and spearheading the annual Craft Fair. She also volunteered for Hospice of Charles County doing office tasks and mailings. She was a docent for the Mattawoman Creek Arts Center, Chairman of the Archbishop Neale High School Class of 1957 class reunion committee, volunteer at the Charles County Library, La Plata Branch, Treasurer of the Southern Maryland Carousel Group, volunteer for the Hospice Festival of Trees, attended Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament weekly, volunteered for the Archbishop Neale School Alumni Association and committee member for the 2005 Sacred Heart and Archbishop Neale School Reunions. In 2008, Margaret and her husband Burkey were inducted into the Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame for their countless hours of community service. Margaret enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, entertaining family and friends, and traveling extensively to all 50 states and including the countries of Tahiti, New Zealand, and Australia. Preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, George Mills and nephew, Tommy Miller. Survived by her husband, Burkey Boggs, children, Evelyn Lawrence (Chuck), Beverly Smith (Mark), Wanda Hein (Jamie), Rick Boggs (Polly), and Greg Boggs (Monna); 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, brothers, Joseph Drinks (Peggy), Harry Drinks (Cathy Millard); sisters, Joyce Mills and Jeanne Tayman (Mike). The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 25. Rosary by Sacred Heart Sodality, 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.; Visitation 10 a.m. to 11: a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at St. Ignatius Church, 8855 Chapel Point Road, Port Tobacco, MD 20677. Pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Kevin Smith, Andrew Lawrence, Chris Lawrence, Justin Hein and Zach Michelbrink. Burial to take place at a later date.
