Brenda Wallace Brooks, of Great Mills, MD, peacefully joined her beloved husband, sisters, brother, and parents in heaven on February 6, 2025, just 20 days shy of her 74th birthday.

Brenda was born on February 26, 1951, in Leonardtown, MD to Joseph Spencer and Mary Edna (Redman) Wallace. She is survived by her brothers George Wallace (Lucy), Joe Wallace, Mike Wallace (Debbie), and John Wallace, her sister-in-law, Lynn Wallace, her brother-in-law, John Shaffer, and many nieces and nephews.

Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Burt, parents, Spencer and Mary Edna Wallace, her brother, Tommy Wallace, and her three sisters, Carolyn Barcikowski (Ski), Mary (Simone) Hill, and Wendy Shaffer.

Brenda fell in love and married Burton G. Brooks on December 3, 1971; together they shared 43 years of marriage before his passing in 2013. Marrying Burt began her career as a dedicated Navy wife. While he was stationed in Hawaii, Brenda became an Ombudsman to the wives and family members of the military personnel out on deployment. She played a vital role in establishing and maintaining communication between the command and the family members. Brenda enjoyed this role and took pride in the work she did to help newer military wives and families understand and navigate military life on the Island.

During her time on the Island, Brenda worked in the fiscal department for the local Verizon Hawaii Telephone Company and started developing an interest in the art of stained glass. She also enjoyed scuba diving and would offer scuba diving lessons and tours with her husband for 8 of the 11 years in Hawaii.

In 1993, Brenda and her husband became members of the "Honolulu Hawaii Harley Owners Group", where they helped establish the first Hawaii State Motorcycle Rally, "Street Biker's United Hawaii", where they first became involved in the Toys for Tots Christmas runs. They enjoyed riding along the winding, coastal and mountain roads there in Hawaii.

Brenda returned to St. Mary's County, MD with her husband after he retired from the Navy and immediately joined the "Annapolis Harley Owners Group" where they enjoyed traveling the states. She continued her love of stained glass by starting the Fat Cat Stained Glass Studio behind their home where she would make beautiful stained glass creations. Brenda would make the art, Burt would hand make the frames, and their displays could be seen at Anne Marie Gardens and other local craft shows.

Brenda loved a good pitch game, all of her beloved cats, her beautiful flower gardens, and enjoyed sitting at her table in her garden room watching all the wildlife that would make her backyard their home.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to the workers at Heal Rest Assisted Living in Waldorf, MD for their caring and support to Brenda for the last year.

Per Brenda's wishes, there will not be an official gathering. She only wanted to be put to rest alongside her beloved husband at Arlington National Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Tunnels to Towers or Wreaths Across America in her memory.
