June Laverne Grover, 87, of St. Leonard, MD passed away at her home on Sunday, April 12, 2009. Born on October 28, 1921 in Broomes Island, MD, to the late Wilmer Guy and Hellen Eileen Sewell Elliott.

Besides her parents, June is also preceded in death by her husband William Wesley Grover and siblings Guy Wilmer, John Samuel, James Harvey, Ronald Elliott, and Delores Francis Dowell.

She married William Wesley Grover of Lusby, MD on February 29, 1940. William and June moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where they had two children. In 1946, the family returned to Calvert County to their home in St. Leonard. June began working part-time as a postal clerk for the St. Leonard Post Office. Later she accepted the title of Post Master of the St. Leonard Post Office where she remained until retirement, working over 30 years as the Post Master.

June was a member of many organizations including Eastern Star, Pythian Sisters Lodge, Calvert Memorial Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary, and the St. Leonard Vision Group. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Lusby, MD. June was a charter member of the Calvert County Lioness Club and served as President from 1983-1984.

She received many honors and citations for her volunteer work. In 1985, she was named Outstanding Citizen of Calvert County by the Calvert County Commission for Women. Her name is listed in the U.S. Congressional Record, which was a tribute from Representative Roy Dyson. Both as a dedicated community leader and volunteer and devoted family matriarch, she will be deeply missed. Her words of wisdom and legacy as a noble woman will be cherished and remembered by those who knew her well.

She is survived by her children, Wayne William Grover, and Joyce Lee White, both of St. Leonard, MD. Grandmother of Timothy Wayne Grover, William Wesley Grover, and Bryan Patrick White of St. Leonard, MD, and Kimberly Susan Cross of Plant City, FL. Great grandmother of Kemper Cameron and Allyssa Noel Cross of Plant City, FL, Reghan Keeley and Gavin Hunter White of St. Leonard, MD, Tyler Christian and Tara Caitlyn Grover of St. Leonard, MD, and Madison Elisa and Morgan Page Grover of Lusby, MD.

She is also survived by her sisters, Naomi Helen Woomer of St. Leonard, MD, Ruth Lorraine Goodwin of Harbor Heights, TX, and Ramona Mulligan of Pasadena, MD, and brothers Joseph Franklin of St. Leonard, MD, Gordon Richard of Broomes Island, MD, and Glen Godwin Elliott of Buloxi, MS.

The family received friends at the Rausch Funeral Home, 4405 Broomes Island Road, Port Republic, MD on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, 11 AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Lusby, MD. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Paul's United Methodist Church or Calvert Hospice.
