Leo Elmer Carroll, 85, of Saint Inigoes, MD, passed away Tuesday, December 24 at home. Born on June 17, 1939 in Dameron, MD, he was the son of Bernard "Pete" Carroll and Edna Agnes Ridgell. On December 19, 1970, Leo married Brenda Sandidge Carroll at Trinity Episcopal Church in Saint Mary's City, MD. Together they celebrated more than 44 wonderful years. He retired in 1994 from his position as an Electronics Technician in Civil Service.

The most important things to Lee were his family and his friends. He loved spending time with people and most afternoons found him at the American Legion Post 255 or Buzzy's Country Store. He enjoyed making and sharing good food with everyone, whether it was a sweet potato pie that he made, or tips about his favorite restaurants. He was especially known for his stuffed ham and his homemade ice cream. He was a generous man who showed his love with gentle teasing and his ready smile. Lee was most proud of his granddaughters. He was a very involved grandfather who attended every recital, performance, or graduation in addition to making sure to pass down his wisdom, stories, and family traditions. In his life he had many interests including birdwatching, playing the horses, and enjoying books and music. He frequently acknowledged that he had a great life and that life didn't owe him anything. He died a happy man.

Lee is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Leigh Carroll; his son-in-law, John D. Johnston; his granddaughters, Emma Johnston Carroll and Leah Johnston Carroll; and his siblings, Jeannette Kepner (Tom) of St. Mary's City, MD, John B. Carroll (Debby) of Winston, NM, Teresa A. Burke (David) of St. Inigoes, MD, Marjorie Carroll of St. Inigoes, MD, Timothy Carroll (Joyce) of Pasadena, MD, Marian Trossbach of St. Inigoes, MD, and Walter Carroll (Wendy) of St. Inigoes, MD. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, Philip Carroll, Larry Carroll, Ada Spelz, Allan Carroll, David Carroll, George Carroll, and Theodore Carroll.

Services will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 456, Ridge, MD 20680.
