Kay Ellen (Thomas) Hoyle, 87, of Solomons, MD, passed away December 14, 2024, at the home of her daughter. She was surrounded by family. Born on September 25, 1937, in Washington, D.C., Kay was the daughter of Lilah Kathryn (Reed) and Frederick Bendall Thomas.
Kay grew up in Mount Ranier and graduated from Northwestern Senior High School class of 1955. She married Carter Michael Hoyle on June 7, 1958, and together they made their home in Hyattsville, where they raised their three children, Michael, Susan, and David. Kay was an active member of the Green Meadows Boys and Girls Club. Kay and her husband Carter enjoyed working with the youth and often could be seen on the ball fields. She also ran the Fairlanes Bowling Alley in Prince George's Plaza. She worked for MCNPPC Sports Office until she left to open up her own business. Kay opened and operated the Main Street Corner Shoppe in 1983. She was best known for her numerous Christmas displays and collectables. In 2002 she retired and sold her shop to move to Delaware. Kay lived in Delaware where she was an active member in her community of Angola Beach and Estates. She continued to enjoy collecting and selling her antiques at consignment shops around the Lewes area. In 2018 she moved to Annapolis and lived full time with her son David, daughter-in-law , and grandsons until she had a stroke and moved to Solomons with her daughter, Susie. The family would like to give thanks to the amazing and caring team from Hospice of the Chesapeake for making her final weeks comfortable. Kay is survived by her children, Michael Hoyle of Glen Burnie, Susan "Susie" Hoyle of Solomons, and David Hoyle and his wife Hilly of Annapolis; grandchildren Christine Manning (John), Ashley Hoyle, Kevin Goetz, Lauren Hall, Michael Hoyle, Carter, and Chase Hoyle; fourteen great-grandchildren; her nieces Melissa Richardson (Mike), and Lisa Johnson (Timmy); a nephew Brian Hinson, and special cousins, Betty Blake, Kathy Lipford, and Florrie Bailey. Kay also had many friends she held dear. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Carter M. Hoyle, her parents, Frederick and Lilah Thomas; sister Dorothy Boucher, and granddaughter Sara Leigh Hoyle. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations in Kay's honor to be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, Burnett Center for Hope and Healing, P.O.
