Carl George Walter, 83, of Hughesville died April 3, 2009 at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Born December 7, 1925 in Hughesville, MD, he was the son of the late Harry and Emma Walter.

Carl was a lifetime farmer. He served in the Army during World War II receiving numerous medals and awards, among them being the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon and the Army Occupation Medal. Carl also was a member of the Farm Bureau, Soil Conservation and the American Legion.

Mr. Walter is survived by his wife of 48 years, Olga Walter; daughter, Angela Walter; son, David Walter (Michelle), grandson, Austin Walter; granddaughters, Alex, Casssie and Sydney Walter; brother, Harold Walter and sister, Mary McLaughlin.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Walter was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry, Edward and Francis Walter and a sister, Emma Jane Walter.

The family received friends and relatives for Carl's Life Celebration on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bryantown, MD with the Rev. Lawrence Young officiating. Burial took place in the Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steve Walter, Joe Walter, Tom Walter, Andy Montgomery, Andrew Montgomery and Pat Langley.
